Partnerships
The Industrial Placements office actively partners with companies to provide value to both students and businesses. We are always excited to discuss unique and exciting ways in which we can facilitate the movement of skills, ideas and experience between the engineering department and industry. Previously we have partnered with companies to host students onsite at insight days, allowing students to gain exposure to different professional environments.
Examples from a recent event in May 2025:
Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 visit to the Department of Engineering
Interview with Mercedes F1 Technical Director James Allison
We are also delighted to invite representatives into the Department to run skills sessions, guest lectures and events of varying scale. Employer‑led skills sessions offer engineering companies a flexible and impactful way to collaborate with the Department of Engineering. Through these sessions, organisations can engage directly with students by sharing real‑world engineering challenges, technical workflows, professional skills and sector insights that complement the academic curriculum.
Sessions can be tailored to reflect your organisation’s expertise, from design, manufacturing and systems engineering to software, sustainability, energy or data‑driven engineering, helping students understand how engineering theory is applied in practice. They also provide a valuable opportunity to raise your profile among highly motivated students, contribute to skills development across undergraduate and postgraduate cohorts, and support informed pathways into placements, internships and graduate roles.
Examples on how you can approach these sessions can be found here.
