Finance and remuneration

Salaries will vary by company, location, type of work the student will be performing and how experienced the student is. As a very broad guideline, we find that employers offer upwards of £250 - £350 a week, depending on what year of studies the student has completed and their previous experience. Some of our students have completed a year out prior to their arrival at Cambridge and may have considerable specialist skills and knowledge, so it can help if you are be prepared to be flexible.

The Santander Universities SME Internship programme helps to fund work experience in start-ups or SMEs (small to medium sized enterprises). The funding is open to all undergraduate students. Organisations must be registered in the UK and have fewer than 250 employees and less than £50m turnover. Limited companies, franchises, social enterprises, UK subsidiaries, partnerships and charities are all eligible. Interns receive at least £300 per week (exceeding UK living wage) for up to 10 weeks, funded by Santander with £150 and at least another £150 by the start-up/SME per week.
