Industrial Placements

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) have provided a guide to help employers start an internship scheme or improve their existing programme. Internships That Work covers all the main issues surrounding internships, including:

  • preparation and recruitment
  • status and payment of interns
  • introduction to the organisation
  • the intern experience
  • supervision, support and mentoring
  • giving references and feedback.

Each of these six principles is given a dedicated section within this guide, along with guidance drawn both from the CIPD and from government and statutory resources. The guide suggests how each of the principles can be addressed in a way that gives the greatest benefit to both the intern and the employer.
